(AUDIO) Homesteading Chat with Alexia Allen of Hawthorn Farm

We want you to know if you buy something using the retail links in our posts, we may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you). We will never recommend anything we don’t believe in. Not for all the butter in Sweden. You can read our full policy or contact us if you have questions.

When people think about homesteading, they often think about an isolated homestead that is completely self-sufficient. But here's a secret: None of us go it alone. And that can be a beautiful thing.

In this post you can listen to a conversation I had with one of my very favorite modern homesteaders, Alexia Allen of Hawthorn Farm. She's a gifted educator and I like to joke that I hope one day my homestead will be as cool as hers.

If you visit "Our Story" on this website you'll see a picture of me in her farm kitchen, up to my elbows in curdled goats milk. It's one of the happiest pictures of me in recent years.

In this 20 minute chat you will hear a little more about my backstory and our approach to coexisting with wild neighbors. I hope it’s the first of many such conversations!
