(Video) Book Review: Gardening West of the Cascades

Watch the video, Book Review: Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades, on YouTube.

There are some books that are informative, others that are entertaining and precious few that are both. This book is one of them. Author Steve Solomon comes across as a knowledgable, caring-yet curmudgeonly old farmer in this tome.

I heard about this book for years, but was finally able to purchase my own copy when the 6th edition was published. It quickly became my primary source for garden advice. When the 7th edition came out in 2015 I quickly snapped it up. While I haven’t seen earlier editions, based on what I know of Solomon, I would recommend any of them.

Back in the 1970’s, Steve Solomon started the Territorial Seed Company, one of the most widely known and trusted independent seed suppliers in the Pacific Northwest.

In this video I’ll tell you a bit more about why I love this book so much, and read you a favorite passage.
